Duties & Responsibilities
The Selectmen’s Office handles a wide range of duties including but not limited to; burning permits, notary services, town bookkeeping duties, budget controls, and health issues. The Board of Selectmen consists of three elected members that meets on the first and third Tuesday evenings throughout the year. (See monthly calendar for complete schedule).
First Selectman
- Handles the duties and responsibilities of town government
- Keeps a true account of all expenditures
- Supervises all department heads
- Functions as the Chief of Police
- With the Board of Selectmen recommends budget considerations
- Is an ex-officio member of all boards and commissions
Selectmen
- With the First Selectman, handles the duties of the town government including oversight of bookkeeping services, budget development and control, health and welfare, emergency management, appointments to several boards, commissions, and committees
- Advise the First Selectman in town matters
- Acts as liaisons to other boards and commissions
