First Selectman Weekly Update 10-11-2019

nosto update

Hello North Stonington!

Another busy week ends here in our town!

This past Tuesday we had our town meeting! Thanks to everyone who took the time to come out and participate in this important part of keeping our town running. It was certainly a unique meeting as several questions had to be voted on by paper ballot which I had not seen happen in my 10 years in town. I would like to thank the Town Hall team and our meeting moderators for their hard work keeping things moving along. Earlier this week we sent out the results of the questions and they can be found here…

We will soon be conducting a survey to get townspeople’s feedback on town meeting voting vs. referendum voting. Look for this survey in the coming weeks and please take the time to fill it out so your voice can be heard.

Last Sunday our emergency responders hosted an open house at the Center for Emergency Services! We kicked off fire prevention week and we are thankful to our volunteer firefighters for helping inform the public on these important safety measures. Special thanks to crewmembers for their work at the school teaching our little ones!  On Sunday we also held the Hewitt Farm Pavilion Festival and ribbon cutting. It was a great day to come out and enjoy the farm and our beautiful new pavilion. Thank you again to our Recreation Commission, Hewitt Farm Committee, and all the volunteers who made the day possible!

The North Stonington Quarterly should have arrived in everyone’s mailboxes last week. It’s hard to believe it has been 25 issues and 6 years since our first was published! I would like to thank editors Nita Kincaid and Lisa Mazzella for their continued work publishing it and to all the contributors. Please consider reading it as it really gives a great picture of all things happening in our small town! If you did not receive your copy feel free to visit our website at https://www.northstoningtonct.gov/sites/g/files/vyhlif4806/f/uploads/final_fall_2019_nsq.pdf to view the color version of it.

An 9th conference call took place on Tuesday regarding the EEE mosquitoes. With the weather cooling the activity is calming and the mosquitoes are declining. Precautions remain in place and should still be observed until the first hard frost so please continue to be vigilant.

The highway crew remains busy as autumn is upon us. We continue tree trimming throughout town and finished some paving on button road. The hauling of sand has begun with 1500 tons being hauled getting ready for the winter.

I would like to send our heartfelt prayers, thoughts, and sympathy to the victims involved in the deadly crash on I95 this week. Thank you to North Stonington Ambulance Association, Connecticut State Police Troop E Montville, & North Stonington Volunteer Fire Company for your immediate response.

The town hall will be closed Monday for the Columbus Day Holiday.
