First Selectman Weekly Update 9-6-2019

nosto update

Happy Friday North Stonington!

We would like to remind everyone to continue to be vigilant regarding the mosquito issues we are facing with the EEE virus being found in mosquitoes in the local area. We have participated in two conference calls with the experts from the State, Ledge Light Health District, and the mosquito management team at the State. At this time the town is taking the further protocols of placing mosquito dunks in many of the catch basins around town which have a larvicide designed to lessen the potential of further development of adult flying mosquitoes.

Please see this link for Ledge Light Health and Town recommendations for precautions that should be taken to avoid getting bit as well as how to reduce mosquitoes around the home… https://llhd.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/EEE-Press-Release-LLHD_Uncas-2019-0827-1.pdf

For those who are interested in Ledge Light Health Districts Mosquito control program, please see this link and contact them directly… https://llhd.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/LLHD-2019-Larvicide-Flier.pdf

The school and town are both following recommended precautions as outlined by Ledge Light Health District

Tomorrow, September 7th there will be Hazardous waste collection at the old Wheeler High School from 9am-1pm. This is a great opportunity to get rid of materials that cannot be disposed of otherwise. For a list of items that you can dispose of see this link http://scrrra.org/how-do-i/recycle-hazardous-waste . Paper shredding is also available.

On September 7th the Community Conversation about the Greater Village area will take place at the Wheeler Library starting promptly at 9am. We will end no later than 11am but hopefully a bit earlier. Please join us to talk about ideas for the future of your town!

NoStoFest is around the corner! It will take place on September 21st and will feature all things North Stonington! Local bands, food, and entertainment will be bursting in the village. If you are interested in volunteering to help, please contact nostofest@gmail.com . We are also looking for folks to enter the chili cookoff! You can also email nostofest@gmail.com to find out how to enter your recipe and get a chance to be crowned NoSto Chili master!

Next week we hope to be back with the weekly video update now that school is back. We are looking forward to working with the Wheeler Broadcasting Team!
