North Stonington Weekly Update 6.10.2021- Town Meeting this Tuesday at 7pm, Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center North Stonington Hours 9am-4pm on Tuesdays, & More!

Happy Friday North Stonington,

The Town Meeting and Referendum have been set for our budget. Please join us either in person or via Zoom at the Town Meeting to be held at the Education Center at 298 Norwich Westerly Road in the Media Center at 7pm Tuesday, June 15th. The Town Meeting is the opportunity to become familiar with the proposed budget and hear from the Boards of Finance, Selectmen, & Education on details as well as to ask questions. To see the proposed budget click here . If you wish to attend the meeting remotely you must register by noon on Tuesday. This meeting will only be viewable by those who pre-register or attend in person. This is because it is a legal meeting in which we need voters to participate and we must verify voter eligibility. A recording of the meeting will be available afterwards for anyone who is unable to participate. We look forward to seeing you in person or on Zoom!

Following the Town Meeting, the budget will then go to a vote which will be held on Monday, June 28th. Once the Town Meeting is held, absentee ballots will be available for anyone who needs one. You may vote absentee for any reason and we are being allowed to use the State ballot box to drop off your ballots. If you need an absentee ballot please visit the Town Clerk beginning Wednesday, June 16th.  Please vote and let your voice be heard!

Beginning on June 15th, a staff member of the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center (PNC) will be available every Tuesday at the North Stonington Town Hall from 9:00am to 4:00pm, to meet with North Stonington residents who have questions concerning the following issues: food insecurity, rental and mortgage assistance, fuel and energy assistance, SNAP benefits, WIC benefits, transportation issues, senior concerns and activities and social issues.  This is a good opportunity to learn about the resources offered to North Stonington residents through the PNC, state, local, and federal sources.  North Stonington residents are not required to make an appointment. Susan Sedensky, Executive Director and Abby Laquerre, Case Worker can be reached by calling (860) 599 - 3285, extensions 101 and 103. Please spread the word to anyone in need.

Important Reminder - June is dog licensing month!  All dogs over 6 months of age must be licensed during the month of June.  The fee for unaltered dogs is $19.00 or for neutered/spayed dogs is $8.00.  For new dogs, a current rabies vaccination certificate and, if applicable, proof of neutering/spaying must be provided before the dog can be licensed.  A Rabies Clinic will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the New Town Hall, 40 Main Street, North Stonington from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM for $15.00 CASH ONLY.  All dogs must be on a leash and all cats must be in a carrier.  Please bring a previous rabies vaccination certificate to receive a 3-year vaccine.  The Town Clerk's Office will be open during the rabies clinic to license North Stonington dogs.  Please call the Town Clerk's Office at (860) 535-2877 Ext. 121 or email townclerk@northstoningtonct.gov if there are any questions.

This week a meeting took place with State Police, EnCon, boat and fishing representatives as we discussed keeping our lakes clean and safe for residents and visitors. As a reminder please park only in designated areas if you visit our lakes and take with you what you bring. We have some special places here in North Stonington and we want to keep them that way.

A great meeting took place last Monday to discuss the American Rescue Package funding the town will be receiving. We are thankful to all board and commission members and public who took the time to attend and contribute. The recording of that meeting can be found here for those who were unable to attend: Click Here to view the recording.

Thanks to the Library for coordinating a vaccine clinic last Saturday! We are heading over 50% of fully vaccinated here in North Stonington but to gain herd immunity that number needs to be closer to 70%. Please consider getting vaccinated if you haven't yet done so. There is growing concern of new variants and we would not want any of our neighbors to become sick when there is protection freely available. Vaccines are now largely available at pharmacies and possibly at your own doctor's office.

This week was a very special one for our many students here in North Stonington as graduations are taking place. It certainly has been a year to remember and we can't thank the staff and administration enough for their hard work and dedication during these challenging times. We wish our graduating seniors well as they move on to their next chapter in life.

That's it for today, have a great weekend!
