North Stonington Weekly Update 9-3-2021: Ida remnants update; Welcome Beth Leamon Probate Judge and more.

nosto update

Happy Friday North Stonington,

It looks as though we are having a bit of nice weather in between a few rough patches. Unfortunately, this hurricane season is projected to be a busy one. If you have not yet signed up for CT Alerts we encourage everyone to do so, as that is the best way to be informed of emergency weather situations https://portal.ct.gov/ctalert . We are pleased that while there were some issues with water locally, we avoided any major issues and long-term power outages. Once again we are so thankful to our highway crew, emergency responders, tree crews, and Eversource for getting things up and running so quickly. We must continue to be prepared for serious weather as we have yet to make sweeping changes to combat climate change. Please consider advocating, when you have opportunity to, on any and all efforts to reduce local and global emissions. An opportunity in our State to make sweeping positive climate changes is soon to be discussed. To learn more visit www.conservationeducation.org/tci

Important office hours to note: Town Hall will be closed Monday, September 6th in observance of the Labor Day Holiday; the Tax office will be closed Tuesday, September 7th; and our Land Use office is currently closed on Fridays until our new Planning and Development Zoning official is onboard.

The local Hazardous Household Waste Day is Saturday, September 11th from 9am-1pm. Please come to 298 Norwich-Westerly Road with anything you need to dispose of, including shredding. For more information on this, visit http://scrrra.org/events/household-hazardous-waste-collection-paper-shredding-16/.

Yesterday, after many years of dedicated service to the local community, Nick Kepple stepped down as Probate Judge and Beth Leamon was sworn in. Lieutenant Governor Bysiewicz was in town to officiate the ceremony. Congrats to Judge Leamon and we look forward to working with her!

As previously mentioned, the highway crew has been very busy with storm cleanup and keeping things moving along here in town. We also added some signs at our pavilions and mowing continued throughout town. Our diligence in keeping on top of the beaver dams, which had in the past affected drainage, has been effective as our drainage flowed well throughout these two major storms.

That’s it for today. We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Holiday weekend!
