First Selectman Weekly Update 1-10-2020

Happy Friday North Stonington!

This past week has been a busy one as we enter 2020!

Monday evening, we held a Town meeting to discuss the upcoming referendum on whether or not the Town should negotiate a sale of approximately 10 acres off of Wintechog Hill Road for the development of affordable housing. I would encourage everyone to read the presentation given by Planning Development and Zoning Official Juliet Hodge. Click here to see the presentation.

We also held a Tri-Board meeting with State Representative Kate Rotella and Senator Heather Somers who came to hear from our local leadership and residents about concerns and priorities. Thanks to our local leaders and residents for taking the time to attend this meeting. We look forward to working with our State representatives on improving our wonderful town! The December call stats are in from Troop E, the State Police that serve our area. In December there were 314 calls for service from our town. Thanks to Troop E for their continued commitment to North Stonington.

The Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments (SCOGG) has named its executive and legislative boards and I am honored to have been named Treasurer of the organization as well as a member of the legislative board. I look forward to working with this regional group of leaders and CEOs in the area to bring more focus to Southeastern Connecticut.

In highway news, our crew worked on cutting trees and removing bushes from the Hewitt Farm property. Water drains were cleaned and the paths to them were cleared on Jeremy Hill Road. Snow removal was performed Tuesday night and icy roadways were sanded Wednesday morning. Trucks were washed and maintained to prepare for the next storm. More of the same work will continue next week. I was happy to be joined this week by Highway Foreman Donny Hill to get some updates on the inner workings of our crew and upcoming projects.
