Selectman's update- Town meeting October 22, 2018 7pm, Flu Vaccine clinic tomorrow, town appointments and more

Hello North Stonington,

We hope everyone had a fantastic week!

Our town meeting will be held on October 22nd at the new Recreation Center at 7pm. The three items that will be voted on at that meeting is a request for approval of putting aside the towns portion of funds to repair the bridge on Boombridge Road, adoption of an ordinance related to banning fracking waste from coming into our town, and permission to sell two town-owned properties at 119 and 123A Clarks Falls Road. The presentation and call for the meeting are available on the town website www.northstoningtonct.gov or at town hall. Please plan to attend if you can as these items will be voted on in that meeting.

As mentioned last week there will be a special election in the near future for the town treasurer position. Since the town cannot be without a treasurer the Board of Selectmen did need to appoint someone to serve in the interim. After advertising the position and reviewing the candidates we are excited to announce former Selectman Mark Donahue has been appointed. Mark had served as Chairman of the Board of Finance and a Selectman, as well as other various roles in town. He will serve the town well as Treasurer.

Tomorrow, October 20th there will be a flu vaccine clinic at the new Recreation Center (old firehouse) from 2:30-4:30pm. Please bring your insurance card; there is a limited supply of free shots available. We hope to see you then.

There will be a pasta dinner to discuss affordable housing in North Stonington. If you know anyone in the market to buy a home have them come for this free dinner Saturday October 27th from 5-9pm at the Congregational Church, 89 Main Street, North Stonington CT. You can pre-register by emailing affordablehousing@northstoningtonct.gov or texting 860.235.4834. Hope to see you there!

We would like to welcome Lou Dicesare as the town’s new/old building official. Many of you will remember Lou as he served in this role for many years. With our former building official Bob Roarback leaving Lou was available to return to us. Please call the land use office anytime during regular business hours for your permitting needs.

This week the highway team completed line striping of all roadways in town. We began winter storm preparations hauling 554.79 tons of sand and 64.30 tons of salt to highway garage. Sand and salt mixing were completed. A large stump was removed on Rocky Hollow Rd after a tree fell causing a power outage for several hours. Brush cutting behind the town hall was completed due to over-grown vegetation. Mowing was completed on Northwest Corner Rd, Miller Rd and Button Rd. Weed control was conducted at the Recreation Center. Also, a new town information board was installed on the recreation property. Sweeping was conducted on Chester Main, Wyassup and Wyassup Lake Rd. The Greene Gables building on the Hewitt Farm property was removed and restoration of that site has begun.

Next week the highway crew will continue mowing on Northwest Corner and hauling of winter sand, as well as sweeping on Ryder Rd, Wintechog Hill Rd and Boombridge Rd. Clean-up on the Hewitt property will proceed. The mechanic will be installing sanders and plows on some of the fleet vehicles to continue with our winter season preparations.

Please check the town website for upcoming meetings and events at www.northstoningtonct.gov

Have a great week!
