North Stonington Transfer Station
RFP for Compactor units

Background
The Town of North Stonington is seeking bids for purchasing compactor units for garbage and single stream recycling for the upgrade plan in place at the Transfer Station. With this plan, the Transfer Station recycling will be Town owned & operated as well as hauled.

Bid scope

For the household garbage
We are looking for two 34-yard self-contained compacting units with one ten HP tri volt power unit that is powered with three phase electrical. The package must come with a 15’ guide rail kit with stops. The power unit must have a 15’ extension on the push button station to be relocated from the pump to the wall above the compactor. Because the compactor will be recessed 15’ below the floor the garbage will be thrown into the compactor. There will also have to be a suspended doghouse bolted to the floor with an access door with a safety switch, that way the container will roll under when pulled out to be hauled and dumped.

Single stream recycling
The town has a rented marathon 3-yard stationary compactor with a 15HP motor to pack. We would like to replace this rented unit with a new one of the exact specs to fit in its place. This must also come with two 40 yd octogen receiver containers to match up to the compacter. The unit must also come with a 15’ extension for the gauge and push button to be located above the container. There is already a rail system on the floor for the containers so there is no need for them for this unit.

Compactor questions:

Q: Question on the 34yd SC. The bid calls for 2 machines but it looks like only one enclosure. Is the second machine just for a spare?

A: The whole bid contains 2 containers. The doghouse will have to be stationary at the transfer station, bolted to the floor and we will only need 1 power unit. This way we can change out containers and use the same power unit.
