First Selectman Weekly Update 1-18-2019

Selectmans update- Winter storm preparations, town survey closes January 25th, Town Hall Closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, tree trimming continues, and more

Happy Friday North Stonington!

Another week comes to a close here and it was another busy one.

This week I attended a Connecticut Conference of Municipalities meeting where state legislative priorities were discussed. Many topics were discussed and debated and will be presented to the Governor and Legislature for consideration. We will know more on February 20th more specifics from the Governors officer regarding budgeting priorities.

I also attended Connecticut Council of Small town’s Town meeting. Here we got a preview into some of the State’s challenges and opportunities and I had a chance to meet with local leaders.

Last night the Economic Development Commission met and talked about their priorities for the upcoming fiscal year and the remainder of this fiscal year. They have some exciting ideas and will look to roll out a website dedicated to Economic Development in our area. We look forward to their coming action and thank them for their efforts.

The town survey is available through Friday, January 25. Please take a moment to provide us your feedback on the town. The link to the survey is here… https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1t99FNW_ZkhgAjhgmTjBOWbvCovWTx_8wy6OkvG3KDhg/edit

This week the highway crew cut dead trees on Ryder Rd and Fowler Rd, Hangman Hill and Lantern Hill. Mechanics completed repairs on Truck #7 with a transmission issue and Truck #42 had a brake system failure. The new Truck #12 returned from the dealer with a new lift gate. The highway crew replaced 8 lights out at the New Town Hall Conference Room and replaced filters on the heating system at the transfer station among other daily tasks. Next week we will continue tree cutting on Ryder Rd, Fowler Rd, Lantern Hill Rd and Rocky Hollow Rd. Please be alert when approaching tree cutting zones.

Monday in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Day the Town Hall and Highway Department will be closed.

As you may have heard we are possibly in for a major storm this weekend. In preparation please see these tips from Eversource.
