First Selectman Weekly Update 7-26-2019

Happy Friday North Stonington!

We hope everyone has had an enjoyable week and safely made it through our heat wave last weekend.

Tax bills should be going out soon and in your mailbox the first week in August. As a reminder we delayed sending them one month this year as we waited for the budget to pass before setting the mil rate. Beginning August 1, the Office of the Tax Collector will be open Monday-Friday 9:00am-3:00pm for the month.

As mentioned in previous messages we will be holding a "Community Conversation" regarding the greater village area on September 7th at 9am at the Library. In preparation for this event, we will be having a walking audit of the village. We invite anyone who is interested in taking a walk around the village to view and assess its walkability and brainstorm potential ideas to make it more connected, safe, and enjoyable is to join us on August 8th from 6-7pm. We will meet in front of the WheelerLibrary and safety vests will be distributed along with a questionnaire to help garner feedback. Volunteers will be asked to walk around areas to fill out the assessment and this data will be used to help guide some of our discussions on September 7th. If you are interested in participating in our walking audit of the village contact Alexis Kahn atakahn@chelseagroton.com to RSVP. More details will follow.

Highway operations continue with regular mowing and continued tree trimming on state and town roads. Please drive carefully around our road crews.

The 4H Fair is happening at the North Stonington Grange this weekend! We thank all of the volunteers and dedicated members for their work on this great tradition! Stop by if you are in the area.

Thats it for this week, have a great weekend!
