North Stonington Update 10/22/2021 - Halloween Light parade tonight at 6pm, financial assistance available, highway updates and more!

Good Morning North Stonington!

The crisp mornings are now here and perhaps the warm summer days are now behind us.

Another busy week comes to a close here in North Stonington. For those in need of assistance, we wanted to let you know Eversource has programs to help you. If you’re finding it difficult to keep up with your electric or gas bills, visit Eversource.com/BillHelp or contact Eversource directly at 1-800-286-2828.

In addition, the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center is currently assisting North Stonington residents with direct financial assistance for housing, heat and utilities costs. We are pleased to announce that funding will also be available to our residents who need help with childcare costs.  We hope that this will especially help parents who are returning to work and need assistance in financing their childcare costs or have additional struggles due to COVID-19 quarantine requirements for their children. If you need help, call the PNC at (860)599-3285, ext. 101 to speak with Susan Sedensky, Executive Director. The PNC will be in North Stonington the first Tuesday of the month from 9-12 and always available in Pawcatuck!

North Stonington is implementing a “non-emergency” notification system. For those who have signed up for emergency alerts through CT Alerts, this system will be very similar. You will need to sign up here: https://member.everbridge.net/index/1691190617440260/#/signup  to receive messages. We will be using this system to inform people about happenings around town, as well as other news that may pop up that is not considered emergency information. It will be another great way to stay informed, in addition to our weekly updates, social media, newspaper communication, North Stonington Quarterly, and meeting minutes, among other ways. Please consider signing up!

The November 2, 2021 Town Election will be here in less than 2 weeks!  The Town Clerk’s Office will be open for absentee ballots next Friday, October 29, 2021 until 5:00 PM and on Saturday, October 30, 2021 from 9:00 AM until 11:30 AM.  Pursuant to House Bill 1202 of the June Special Session 2021, all voters are able to obtain an absentee ballot due to COVID-19.  If you have any questions about absentee ballots, please contact the Town Clerk at (860) 535-2877 Ext. 121 or at townclerk@northstoningtonct.gov.

The Second Annual North Stonington Halloween Light Parade is happening TODAY! ! The best viewing location is along Main Street, North Stonington and will begin at 6pm. We thank Jen Strunk the event organizer and all of the volunteers and participants who will make this a fun event for our community! Feel free to come down to Main Street and find a good spot to watch.

This week the highway crew paved sections of NW Corner, Hangman Hill, Wintechog Hill, and Ryder roads. The painting project was completed at the senior center. Beaver dam blockage was cleared in some waterways around town. Winter sand was hauled in and stockpiled in preparation for the upcoming season. Mowing continued throughout town. Next week the crew will continue to cut trees and haul sand. Missing and broken guard posts will be replaced.
