North Stonington Weekly Update 4/23/2021 – Tax Collection Vacancy, Budget Updates, North Stonington Virtual Business Roundtable Monday and More!

nosto update

Hello North Stonington,

Monday evening a hearing was held to review the proposed 2021/2022 budget. A recording of the presentation can be seen here https://youtu.be/VfJqy0-Qfhg. We would encourage everyone in town to watch this as it gives a good overview of the Town’s financial picture and proposed finances for the upcoming year. The Board of Finance will now be working on making any final changes before it goes to the people for a vote. The next step in the process is the Town Meeting and at this time the date for that meeting has not been set.

We have a vacancy in the Tax Office. If you or someone you know is interested in this part time position please consider applying. Click here for the job description and application

COVID-19 cases are continuing to slowly decline and North Stonington has finally progressed from red to yellow in terms of cases. This does not mean COVID is gone and precautions must still be taken for your own health and wellbeing. Please continue to adhere to distancing requirements and mask wearing and if you are eligible for the vaccine please consider getting it. The benefits of the vaccine are well documented and could save you or your loved ones life.

This week the Highway crew hauled road sweepings from the highway garage to the transfer station. Sweeping was done on Wyassup, Wyassup Lake, Ryder, Yawbux Valley, and Billings Lake Roads. Town grounds were aerated, fertilized, and seeded. Mowing took place at the senior center and Hewitt property. The brick pillar was fixed on Meadow Wood. Some trees were replaced in Kingswood. Potholes were filled throughout town. Swantown Road was graded and washouts were filled on Fowler Road. Truck 1 received a transmission change, the skid steer power rake was welded and sharpened and dump trucks chains and spinners were maintained. Next week the Highway crew will continue to trim trees. Street sweeping and crack sealing will continue around town. Town grounds will be mowed.

The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT, in partnership with the Town of North Stonington Economic Development Commission and SECTER, is excited to host a virtual business roundtable to discuss available resources, trends, and encourage conversation between North Stonington business owners and their state and local representatives on current needs, challenges, and successes.
