Happy Friday North Stonington!

We hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful spring weather that is starting to appear.

Monday at 6pm our Annual Town Meeting will take place. This is the meeting where we will present the budget and then move it to a referendum. You may choose to attend in person at 297 Norwich Westerly Road in the Gym or online by preregistering here https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Icn68c3qRg2GfPu4vaMX8A. You must preregister by noon Monday to attend remotely. Only one device and email per registration. The meeting will only be viewable to those who register as we need people to participate in the meeting as this is the Town’s legislative body and votes are taken at official Town Meetings. We look forward to seeing you there!

We are happy to report another grant was awarded to the Town from the Community Foundation. This grant will match funds we have allocated for the purpose of weed mitigation in our lakes helping to double our effort to keep these invasive species at bay.

For anyone needing to safely dispose of sensitive documents, Chelsea Groton Bank right here in North Stonington is holding a shred day this Saturday from 9am-12. This event is open to the public.

The Rec Commission has many programs for children and adults this spring and summer, visit the website for a full list of offerings https://www.northstoningtonrec.com/info/default.aspx

In Highway news, this week we installed curbing and millings on Johnson Road. Sweeping took place on Puttker, Dennison Hill, Chester Main, Jeremy Hill, Stillman, and Northwest Corner roads. Sweeping was done with the skid steer in tight sections at the Town Hall, Center for Emergency Services, and recreation areas. Sweepings were hauled from the highway garage to the transfer station. The Mack truck received new hoses, the sweeper received new brooms, and the skid steer new tires. Next week the crew will build up a section of Puttker road for drainage. Street sweeping and mowing will continue. Truck 9 will receive new brakes and truck 3 will receive a new transmission seal.

This is an incredibly important week for so many reasons. For one it is Teacher Appreciation Week! We are SO thankful for our teachers here in North Stonington and ALL that they do for our students. They have gone above and beyond during these trying times and we are forever grateful. It’s also Nurse Appreciation week and I think we would all agree we have learned a valuable lesson on how truly indebted we are to our nurses for their commitment to serve. Thank you to our Nurses and Teachers for all you do every day to help serve and inspire us!

Finally it is mental health awareness month in May. So many more people have been affected by mental health issues over the past year. We urge anyone who is in need of help to please reach out to get it. There are resources out there. Do not be afraid and know that there are many others who are feeling the same way. There are some important resources on the State website here https://portal.ct.gov/DMHAS/Upcoming-Events/Events/May-Mental-Health-Month for those in need. 211 is also always available.

We hope everyone has a great weekend!
