First Selectman Weekly Update 3-6-2020

Hello North Stonington!

The budgeting process continues as the Boards of Selectmen, Education, & Finance work on coming up with a budget that we feel the people in town can live with while funding the necessary initiatives in North Stonington. We have been fortunate as of late to have the Milltown Monitor, our local news group, streaming some recent meetings. Here is a list that may be of interest to you…

Watching these videos is a great way to keep up with town happenings and the budget process without having to attend a meeting. Consider subscribing to their YouTube page for updates when they are streaming meetings. We hope to finish with a final budget for Board of Finance consideration at their March 11th meeting.

You may have heard about the tractor trailer crash on I95. We would like to thank Troop E, our local Fire and EMS for their quick response as well as CTDEEP and CTDOT.  Ledgelight Health District released the following statement on the event.

As previously mentioned, a new School Building Repurposing committee has been formed to look at alternative uses for what will soon be the two vacant wings of the old middle high school. The town had originally intended to take down the middle school wing as part of the project. Due to a variety of factors, most notably the extensive PCB remediation, the funds will likely not be available to take down that building. For those who would like to watch the original “revote” town meeting where the entire project was discussed (including the middle school demolition alternate at around 20 minutes) please feel free to watch this video… https://www.northstoningtonct.gov/home/pages/north-stonington-town-meeting-february-1-2018 . I am pleased to report the newly formed committee is hard at work and weighing some very exciting ideas for uses of this facility that sits right in the heart of the village. Feel free to join them at one of their upcoming meetings to share your thoughts or feedback. They are currently meeting the first and third Monday of the month at 6pm at Town Hall.

Speaking of the schools, at the new Elementary school things continue to progress quickly. Here are a few recent pics from this week.
