North Stonington Update 10-9-2020- Get your voting plan ready, North Stonington Quarterly available, extreme drought conditions continue

Hello North Stonington,

Extreme drought conditions continue in our area. As a reminder when in Stage Three drought conditions we must:

  •          End irrigation of established lawns and limit other outdoor water uses
  •          Residents and businesses dependent upon private wells should limit water use to only essential needs to reduce the chance of well depletion (see guidance for private well users)
  •          Prepare for using alternative water sources in the event wells, farm ponds, fire suppression supplies, or other critical water sources become depleted
  •          Avoid burning in or near woodlands or brushlands, and obey any municipal or state orders for outdoor burning bans

COVID-19 cases continue to rise in areas around us. Please keep an eye on www.llhd.org for local testing sites that have popped up. Please see their site for up-to-date information on prevention, detection, & case results in our area.

Following Governor Lamont’s announcement in late September, Connecticut moved into Phase 3 of our reopening yesterday (October 8), easing some restrictions on businesses and gatherings, while still following all safety protocols to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Key changes in Phase 3:

  • Restaurants, personal services, hair salons, barber shops, and libraries may increase from 50 percent to 75 percent capacity indoors (subject to COVID-19 safety requirements)

  • Outdoor event venues (amphitheaters, race tracks, etc.) will increase from 25 percent to 50 percent capacity with masks and social distancing requirements

  • Indoor performing arts venues will be able to open at 50 percent capacity with masks and social distancing requirements

Boombridge is coming along well! The beams have been set and soon we will see the bridge complete! We had expected a November completion and all continues to look well. We have a meeting scheduled next week with the contractors to get further updates.

Our town clerk and registrars have been very busy getting ready for this year’s election. We are looking forward to a record voting turnout. As discussed in prior updates, you are able to vote in person or absentee. This handy chart shows you just what to do based on how you want to vote. Make sure you vote as your vote is your voice!

The highway crew was busy as usual this week. They helped to finish up some of the great work our dedicated community volunteers did by spreading the remainder of the wood chips on the school playground. Tree trimming and fall clean-up work continues throughout town. Please remember we need to keep items placed in the swap shed to only usable items and not boxes of garbage. If we are unable to change this we will be forced to close the swap shed.
