North Stonington Weekly Update 12-11-2020- Town Christmas Tree Lit, Goal Achieved for Sheets Family Forest Purchase, Frequently Asked Questions about Revaluation with Darryl Del Grosso and more!

We are so happy to report the goal was achieved of raising $22,500.00 to help Avalonia Land Conservancy purchase the Sheets Family Forest on Puttker Road. The transaction should take place this month. This property will soon be available for all to enjoy for your recreational hiking and walking fun! Raising these funds from 47 of our neighbors and friends helped us to secure $7,500.00 in matching grants which ultimately closed the gap for Avalonia to complete this purchase. We are so thankful to Avalonia for their investment in North Stonington.

Motor Vehicle Supplemental bills are now available online to pay/view and paper bills will sent via mail in the upcoming days. These bills are due in full January 1, 2021 and Delinquent after Feb 1, 2021.  MVS bills are for vehicles registered between October 2, 2019 and July 31, 2020. Questions can be addressed to the assessor’s office.

Speaking of the assessor, you should have received your revaluation notice in the mail this past week. To help answer some frequently asked questions about revaluation, we had a nice conversation with Town Assessor Darryl Del Grosso. Click Here to watch the video with Town Assessor Darryl Del Grosso

In highway news, this week we plowed and sanded the roads from snow and ice. A broken pillar at Meadow Wood was cleaned up and will be fixed when the weather allows. Some cleared wood was picked up on Reutemann and Hewitt roads. Potholes and some signs around town were fixed. We also completed waterway cleanouts.

Local Covid cases continue to increase and is expected to be the case in the coming weeks.  We must continue to be vigilant and care for one another by wearing masks and keeping our distance. So long as we do these two things we can go about our lives fairly normally. Those who are at higher risk should consider extra precautions. Please remember continue to be caring and considerate for our neighbors and friends. For those looking for a testing site, this page is updated regularly for our area http://seccog.org/covid-testing?nocache

The Santa Run is being combined this year with a special Light Parade on Sunday December 13th (new date due to weather forecast). We are so grateful to our Volunteer Fire Company for continuing to keep in contact with the big man up north to visit our children here in North Stonington. Combining that with the Light Parade and we are going to have a spectacular new celebration. If you choose to watch the parade, please find a spot away from others along the route and consider watching from your car so we don’t have additional gatherings. This event was specially enhanced this year to help us have a safe and socially distanced way of celebrating the holidays during this unusual year. Thanks so much to the participants and organizers!

The tree in the Village Green is now lit for all to enjoy. While no tree lighting ceremony took place this year, we invite anyone to enjoy the beautiful tree. Thanks to the Highway Crew for decorating and to Ladybug Designs on Fowler Road for the donation of the tree.
