Happy Friday North Stonington,

For those 75 and older we hope you have been able to get your vaccine. If you are having trouble with the technology or need some assistance please feel free to contact Teresa Pensis our Senior Center Director Monday, Tuesday, or Friday between 10am - 1pm and she can try and help you. Keep an eye on www.llhd.org for updates related to the vaccine.

You may have seen an article in The Day today stating that the Town had requested an extension for our audit. The auditor had made this request thinking they may not finish on time due to the extensive list of documents related to COVID-19. In fact, the Town has submitted all documents and no further extension was necessary. Our audit once again was exemplary with no major findings and our financial position is excellent. Great job to the staff and boards involved in keeping our town in a strong financial position.

Wheeler Library has moved to appointment only services. Appointments for browsing, computer use, printing, etc. are available five days a week. Library hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 10am to 4pm; Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 10am to 1pm. Please call the library at (860) 535-0383 or email wheelerlibrarystaff@gmail.com to schedule a visit. Curbside pickup continues and we are happy to help you in any way we can.

In highway news, this week we cleared and checked storm drains on Kingswood, Ravenwood, Wyassup, Babcock, Rocky Hollow, Chester Main, Main St, and Northwest Corner roads. Tree trimming took place on Wintechog Hill and a new water drain post was installed as well. Roads were plowed and sanded from the snow storm. Trucks were washed and maintained in preparation for the next storm. A sander was installed on the school gator.

Next week the crew will continue to cut trees and check water ways. Damaged guardrail and waterway posts will be replaced. A new pull string will be installed for truck 2’s sander. A new plow spring and headlight will be installed on truck 17.

The North Stonington Cemetery Commission would like to invite all interested to aid in the restoration of the Brown-Randall Cemetery on February 14 & 15, 2021. We will be joined by Michael Carroll and his group of volunteers. The work will encompass clearing the plot of brush, limbs, and any other growth, as well as attempting to find and repair the walls and grave stones. Work will begin at 9AM until dusk on the 14th of February, weather permitting. As there is much work to be done, we may need to work on the 15th as well. Please contact Diane Preston at djdpreston16@gmail.com, 860-599-1832(home), if you would like to take part.

That’s it for today, have a great week!

Mike Urgo
