Town Government Structure Committee

Town Government Committee - FEB 8, 2017 @ 1930 Wheeler Library

Attendees:  Paul Simonds, Dan Smith, Dan Spring, Nita, Bill Ricker - Absent:  Anne Call to order ~1930

1.      No Public comments

2.      Approval of minutes from Feb 1, 2017 Vote: 5-0-0.

3.      Brief Review of Survey results:   

a.      Nita reported that ~42% of requests for opinions came back with completed survey, far greater than anticipated.  Discussion continued around how survey results might be presented or represented to 1st Selectman (no decision).    

b.      The team is looking to figure how to state what influenced us for the survey results.  Really making sure that we “listen” to what’s being said from the survey is critical.  We do not want any unconscious bias to creep in and misrepresent our results.

c.      Q10 pointed out that the 1st Selectman needs additional support.  In fact ~1/3 of respondents indicated that this is the case and would be helpful to town government.   

d.      The question regarding economic development showed that respondents had a solid understanding of the POCD and its content.   

e.      Respondents did say that town execution of POCD initiatives has moved slowly.

4.      Review of Proposed Org chart:

a.      Review mission of committee

b.      Discussion on how to define new and recently filled roles

c.      Several edits made to org chart but team thought there may be a better way to present town construct (more info needed here.

5.      Dan Spring provided a graphic on what management might look like and offered explanation on what adding “capacity” to town could mean.  

A motion was made to adjourn by Paul Simonds and seconded by Dan Smith.
